Late this evening, I watched a team of mosquito foggers go about their business around our residential area in KL. It was interesting to note that although there were two food establishments in plain sight, the leader of the team did not bother to head over to inform the food establishments prior to fogging. The team went ahead with the fogging. The food establishment went ahead with selling food. What about the customers, you must be thinking? Well, they continued eating as if nothing was happening around them! Was it due to ignorance or indifference?
In contrast, mosquito foggings are carried out at our home in SG at weird hours between 1-3 p.m. Having done my dissertation on the topic of dengue, it is very obviously not the time of the day whereby the aedes mosquito is at its most active (i.e. several hours after sunrise, and several hours before sunset). I construe it as a waste of resources as it lacks in its effectiveness. No prior warnings are given to home owners and much to our aghast, we were in the midst of preparing lunch on several occasions. Once again, was it ignorance or indifference on their part?
